Antique
& Vintage We are delighted to be able to offer for sale a
great number of antique / vintage / and collectible electric sadirons and trivets
originating from several great antique pressing iron collections we
are helping consigners sell. One collection is focused on small and child-size sad or pressing
irons, and includes many toy irons including some cute electrics. Another includes antique
and vintage irons from around the world, both large and small of all
different styles. In addition to collecting different sad irons
another consigner's collection included a wide
Our antique iron consigners have shared many great memories of how and where different irons were acquired. That is oftentimes the greatest joy and how pleased they are now that the sad irons they so lovingly collected and preserved are going to find homes with another new generation of collectors. Please keep in mind that although it may seem like antique sad irons are common and easily found and that we have an awful lot of them for sale here, most of these antique irons are by no means frequently found or widely available these days. These pressing iron collections were assembled over decades---for example the Lloyd collection was begun in the 1950's---and when these irons are gone we will not have more of this caliber until the next collection is offered to us to sell. You will find an incredible variety of antique pressing irons offered by visiting all of the different iron pages and the iron pages we call back pages you will go to when you click the titles below! Electric Irons Early electric irons are the hot (no pun intended) new category of pressing iron collecting. The earliest and rarest examples of electric irons were patented
and appeared on the market in the 1880's. The Carpenter
Patent is credited to be the first patent, and it has been known to
bring 5 figures in the right setting. The rare and early
ones are few and far between and very difficult to find. Many
Most electric irons you find today date from after the turn of the 20th century, and these antique irons symbolize the very beginnings of the availability of household electricity and the transition into "modern" times for the American consumer. I refer to electric pressing irons that followed in later decades as vintage irons. These later irons were about showcasing appealing visual designs and had features like heat regulators and steam to the basic design. There were some great retro designs from the 40's - 50's that are very desirable like the winged Petipoint, the round Knapp Monarch, or Saunders colorful glass "Silverstreak" that come from this era. There is also the whole line of electric "travel" irons that are becoming hard to find unless they are coming from a collection as the ones we are offering are. In general most 20th century electric irons are pretty common and readily available unless found in exceptional condition and in their original boxes, but we have and are offering some pretty hard to find examples and some very appealing vintage electric irons that originate from a couple of the collections we are handling.
