Patent Models & Salesman Samples

1869 Patent Model of Electro Magnetic Engine  This is a very unique and early patent model for an electric motor.  The idea was so novel that they were still referring to such things as engines rather than motors.  This patent model represents one of the earliest ideas put forth for the use of electicity and being a Patent Model it is a one of a kind piece.  Here is a link to see the inventors application and patent.  The number on the tag reads 78619 and the inventors name was Stuart if the link does not work for you.   This patent model is one of but a handful of early electric patent models that still exist.  It is in excellent original condition noting only a small portion of the two small rear feet  have small repairs to them.  All parts of the electrical mechanism are present, which is unusual for
a patent model of this frailty.

Salesman Sample / Juvenile 24"  "Midget" Size Macgregor Wood Shaft Golf   This antique wood shaft "midget" or salesman sample golf club is in pristine like-new condition.  It is all correct and proper.  Take a look at the stamp on the shaft and how it is positioned.  It is marked "Crawford, McGregor, & Canby" and this stamp dates this from the1890's or so.  This firm was located in Dayton, Ohio and was a very well known maker of great gold clubs.  The head is nice and has the Accurate with Arrow stamp as well as the Rose stamp. The head measures just over 3" long and 1 1/4" tall at the tallest point.  It is clearly marked "Putter", and makes no reference to it being a Juvenile club.   I have never had an antique club this size before, and in reading up on them see that "Midget" clubs were a specific size of what were referred to as juvenile clubs.  Most of the info I have read refers to clubs much later than this.  A special find that will make a great gift or addition to the golf related collection!         Click for Pic   Click for Pic   Click for Pic   Click for Pic      BC-SSG-1

Salesman Sample of a Lifting Farm Gate  This antique salesman sample is a great idea. The maker put a lot of effort into the detail of the gate itself with some nice decoration and twisted wire embellishments at the top.  The simple but effective design of the mechanism is great.   I need a similar design at the bottom of my drive as there is not room for one to move back and forth as typically seen on gates like this.  The idea is that the traveler or homeowner would upon reaching the gate, pull on the cord, and through a series of pulleys, weights, and hinges, the gate would fold up and out of the way on a hinge or pivot.  It was perfectly weighted so that a simple pull would raise or lower it.  Nifty Idea that has applications today.        Click for Pic     Click for Pic     Click for Pic     Click for Pic     ML-SS-1

Salesman Sample Fireplace & Oak Mantle Surround  This is a super nice piece.  It has had a little restoration work done on it and the outer box has been refinished.  It looks great now.  The fireplace is cast and the grate in front appears to be brass.  That is a quarter sitting on the shelf to give you a sense of the scale.  The mirror has beveled edges and looks great.  It is not often that the opportunity arises to own antique salesmen samples that are this nicely done.  It displays very nicely and should make a welcome addition to most any collection.     Click for Pic        Click for Pic     Click for Pic        Click for Pic     LCM-SS-1
