Antique Vintage Clothes Sprinklers

Assorted Ironing Related Collectibles

Antique Brass Asian Laundry Sprinkler   This unusual brass container is Asian and was used as a clothes sprinkler to dampen them prior to ironing.  It probably doubled as an opium pipe or at least that is the sense you get from looking at ads and literature from this period describing the folks who ran Chinese laundries.  These are found here on the West Coast and are oftentimes mis identified.

You open the screw lid to fill it with water, then blow into the open end of the tube which would cause a spray of water to come out the other end.  I guess that worked particularly well for silks.

American Made Wall Hung Iron Holder   This vintage is a study in over design.  Probably a rocket designer out of work over designing something most folks had no idea they needed.  The most unusual feature is the marbles in the bottom to keep the sole of the new electric iron off the bottom.  A great retro piece for the modern Laundry room.     Click for Pic

Wire Clothesline   From before the era of electric dryers and when rope was put to better use than as clothesline.  Different.    Click for Pic

3 Laundry Sprinklers / Sprinkle Bottles   Sprinklers make for a great go-with for the collection of irons or a vintage laundry related collection.  The sprinkler on the left is a 1940's-50's vintage ceramic pressing iron-shaped sprinkle bottle.  The painted decoration on the sole is a charming image of a woman ironing.  There are a few very, very minor "flakes" on the bottom edge.  The middle one is a ceramic "Sprinkle Plenty" figural caricature of an Oriental fellow.  It too dates from the 1940's-50's.  No chips or flakes.  The red plastic clothes sprinkler on the right is the "Merry Maid", and she still sports her original paper label giving the manufacturer's information.  It dates from the 1950's-60's and is in great condition.             Click for Pic

3 Vintage Wooden Laundry / Clothes Rack Dryers  This style of dryer was set up on the porch or in the laundry room for small things or small amounts.  The one on the left is pretty simplistic.  In the middle is what looks to be a homemade one that the maker put a lot of thought into.  It is neat.  And finally is the well known "Perfection".      Click for Pic     Click for Pic      Click for Pic

Ironing Card / Calendar  This colorful calendar is printed on card stock and dates from 1934.  Each of the pieces of laundry hanging on the clothes line waiting to be ironed folds up to reveal that month's calendar.  The clothesline itself is actually real string!  Very charming and a perfect companion piece with the calendar below.

Laundry Card / Calendar  This is a fold up calendar card from 1929.  Each of the articles of clothing hanging on the line to dry pops up to show a calendar of the corresponding month that is underneath.  The clothesline is real string so it is very "dimensional" and lots of fun!  Ready to hang in your laundry room!

Leahey's Antique Pants Press   Great graphics, and just what every business man back when needed before the next meeting.  This is a cardboard heatless trouser press that does the ironing for you "While you sleep" and "While you travel".  Believe it or not it indicates this idea was granted a patent in 1914!  The guy promoting this product looks like a shyster to me, but his pants sure look nicely pressed.
