Antique / Collectible & User Quality
 Stanley Rule & Level Co
Plow & Combination Planes

Stanley tried a few different designs of metal bodied combination & plow planes before settling down and going with the #45 / 55 series of planes they are so well known for.  This series of planes would also include the skew cut #46 & 47 models.  The Millers Patent line of woodworking planes including the #41- #44 were introduced in 1870, and phased out in the 1890's.   To learn all the history about the different models and types of # 45 & 55 planes one would ever need to know I recommend the great guide written and published by Dave Heckle past president of MWTCA.   The Millers Patent line of Stanley planes is discussed in length in Roger Smiths works on the subject.

Stanley Millers Patent #41 Plow Plane w/ Fillister BedStanley Millers Patent #41 Plow Plane w/ Fillister Bed   The Stanley Millers Patent line of  Combination Plow and Fillister planes is one of the most graphic, good looking, and sought after of all patented manufactured woodworking planes.  First introduced in 1870 this line of planes was offered by Stanley for less than 30 years before being phased out in favor of the more popular and versatile Stanley #45 / 55 series of planes.

This is a #41 iron plow plane w/ fillister bed.  It is proper the way it is shown with both a straight and wrap around fence.  The fences are missing 3 out of 4 screws.    The #41 came equipped with a Fillister Bed, and iron wrap around fence.  The #43 is the same basic plane without these.   These planes originally came with 9 cutters, but are usually only found with 1 cutter as this one has.   The condition is very nice with no pitting or rust.  This is a nice example of this very beautiful and highly desirable and collectible plane.   A winner that belongs on the top shelf of every serious tool collection.

tanley Millers Patent #44 Plow PlaneStanley Millers Patent #44 Plow Plane   The Stanley Millers Patent line of  Combination Plow and Fillister planes is one of the most graphic, good looking, and sought after of all patented manufactured woodworking planes.  First introduced in 1870 this line of planes was offered by Stanley for less than 30 years before being phased out in favor of the more popular and versitle Stanley #45 / 55 series of planes.

This is a #44 Gunmetal or Bronze plow plane.  It is proper the way it is shown with its straight bronze fence.  The #42 Plow would have a Fillister Bed, and the bronze wrap around fence.  These planes originally came with 9 cutters, but are usually only found with 1 cutter as this one has.   The condition is very nice with no pitting or rust.  Note the bold and clear name stamp on the skate.  The one apology would be the roughness on the top of the tote.   This is one of the nicer examples of this very beautiful and highly desirable and collectible planes that I have ever had the pleasure to offer.  A winner that belongs on the top shelf of every serious tool collection.

#45 Stanley Combination PlaneStanley # 45 Multi Plane  This Stanley # 45 is in nice condition.  The plane is very nice w/ 95% of the nickel or better.  The outer box has seen better days but did its job protecting and keeping the parts together.   The cutters are nice, never been ground and all here.   The cover has a sweetheart logo dating this plane from approx the 20's thru the 30's.    It has both fences and both sets of rods and the cam.   A nice 45 that will make a great user.

Stanley #55 Combination PlaneStanley # 55 Multi Plane in Original Flip Top Wooden Pine Box  This Stanley # 55 combination plane is in super condition.  It is a sweetheart era plane dating from approx 1925 thru 1935 and the later style sweetheart logo is on the skate of the main body.

The nickel plating on the main body, fences and other body part is 98% or better.  There is no rust / pitting and just traces of storage rust in the corners where the skate meets the body.  It is really nice overall.  The finger joint pine wooden box is nice, and a rare variation  as most 55's from this era are found in paste board boxes. There are some minor losses to the painted decal on the top, and some other wear to the finish on the box, but overall it is very nice.

It has the auxiliary tower but the shoe is missing. This is the only apology I see.   Both sets of rods, the cam, slitter, and original screwdriver are present.   There are 56 cutters housed in the 4 row section provided at the end of the original flip top wooden box.  The cutters are near mint and show no signs of ever having been used or sharpened.  It appears this plane was used once, noted by light rub marks on the inside of the smaller Rosewood fence and then put up on the shelf to sit for the next 80 some years. The instruction pamphlet or owners manual is a reprint.

A super Stanley # 55  combination plane in the original box with all original parts.   These planes are becoming ever more difficult to find in this nice condition and seldom found in this style box.    Highly recommended.
