Stanley Combination Planes
Stanley tried a few different designs of metal bodied
combination or plow planes before settling down and going with the #45 / 55
series of planes they are so well known for. This series would also
include the skew cut #46 & 47. To learn all the history about these
planes one would ever need to know I recommend the great guide written and
published by Dave Heckle past president of MWTCA. Please see bottom of
page.

# 45 Combination Plane This 45 dates from near the turn of the century. The
collector looks to have married up the cutters with a body he bought at a
different time. At first I thought this was a rare cutter box i had never
seen before, but now do not know what to make of it. There are 20 cutters
in it, but the label says it was a 55 box. Still I have never seen this
slip style cutter box before. Anyway, It is in OK condition. It has a
slitter just the long arms shown, and no cam. I think he has about 25 more
of these in the collection. He just bought everyone he saw. I know I
sold him more than a few over the years. Pic

# 45 Multi Plane This 45 dates from near the turn of the century. The owner
made box is nicely done. It has both fences and 2 depth stops. There
are also 16 cutters in OK condition It is dirty and has
seen use, but it still functional and pretty nice overall. It will make a

# 45 Multi Plane This Stanley # 45 is in the rare Sweetheart era tin box. The
plane is near mint. The cutters are nice, but only half the box is here..
It has both fences and Both sets of rods and the cam. The instuctions are here

# 45 Multi / Combo Plane
This 45 plane dates from the 30's or a bit later. It looks to
have seen little use. There are a few minor spots along the skate and body
where the plating is lifting, otherwise it is very nice. . It includes the cam, 2 sets of rods, slitter
screwdriver, instructions, and more. It has both fences and 2 depth stops. There
is also the double box of cutters that are like new. The label is there
but has fallen off the box, and the top of the box is missing. The outer box is original and
just OK. It will make a
great user.

# 45 Multi / Combo Plane in Box This Stanley # 45 combination plane dates from the 20's or 30's.
It is in very nice condition. It looks to have seen just minimal
use. It includes the aux. cam, 2 sets of rods, the slitter, both fences and 2 depth stops. The cutters are
nice, rust and pit free, and have not been
ground. The owner made outer box has some wear and tear and is nice and it
did its job of protecting and keeping this plane together.
It will make a great user.

This 45 plane dates from the 20's or 30's It looks to
have never been used. There are a few minor spots along the skate and body
where the plating is lifting, otherwise it is near mint. It includes the
instructions, cam, 2 sets of rods, screwdriver, slitter and more. It has both fences and 2 depth stops. There
is also the double box of cutters that are like new. The outer box which
is not shown is original and nice. These off brand 45's are becoming
very hard to find in this nice condition, and it is every bit as nice as the
Stanley model, just marked a bit differently. It will make a
great user or is nice enough to take a place on the shelf.

# 45 Multi Plane This Stanley # 45 is an early japanned model. The tag
identifies it as a type 2. I did not check that out exactly. There
is a box of cutters included and they are a put together set ---- some look
right, some reshaped, most OK. Pic

#46 Skew Cut Plow Planes From the left are two different #
46 bodies and a # 47. No cutters and each is a bit rough but OK. The
tag on the #47 says this plane came from Roger Smith back in the early 80's.
It looks right to me, and I doubt Roger was grinding off depth stops in his
spare time between writing his books on the subject. Pic
