Hardware Co. Keen Kutter K 3 (603 Stanley Bedrock)
Simmons Hardware had
different makers produce planes for them at different periods. There was one
period in the early 1900's when they contracted out the bench plane
production to Stanley and ordered those planes to be designed like the Stanley Bedrock
series of bench planes. They were marked with a single K and the #. These would correspond
to the early round side Stanley Bedrocks and have the same design frog and adjustment
as early Stanley Bedrocks did. Later planes, or those by other makers are
marked KK and the number. The tag indicates I sold this to him back in the early 90's. Neither of us bothered cleaning it but that is all it needs to be a top shelf example. They are a pretty hard to find plane.

Kutter KK #113 Compass Plane
This is a pretty nice example of a hard
to find plane sold by Simmons hardware of Keen Cutter fame. Simmons had their
planes made by different manufacturers over the years, and this one appears to be
made by Stanley. The body is marked 113, the front knob is marked properly,
and the cutter has the KK logo. The one odd feature is the frog's lateral
is marked Stanley. It looks original and proper, and doesn't look like it's
been changed out---but it's unusual for it to be marked that way.

Kutter KK 5 Bench Plane
It looks like an Ohio made plane to
me with that handle. The collector thought it was by Union, but I do not think
that is right. There is not a lot of paint left, but the plane is very nice
otherwise, and the Rosewood handle is worth the money on a nicer plane that
needs it.
