Crown Molding Planes
E. W. Carpenter Crown Molding Plane This crown molder has a weak
but readable stamp. It was when he was working in Lancaster and is the "A"
imprint I believe. It appears the wedge is a replacement, and the tip of
the tote has been repaired. This came from an early collection and was
bought in the 70's and as was standard practice by many of the early collectors
was refinished buy him. It is straight, and the cutter is nice. I
think it could be stripped and waxed and would look 1000% better if you wanted
to take it back to original. It measures a bit over 5 1/2" from the inside
of the fence to the edge.

Unmarked Crown Molding Plane This crown molder appears to be
unmarked. It measures 4 1/2" from the inside of the fence to the edge of
the plane. The previous owner has applied a fence as can be seen and I
believe the pull stick is a newer replacement. It is straight,
and the cutter is nice. Crown molders are becoming hard to find and this
one is a pretty nice example.

Crown Molding Plane This 3 1/2" wide crown molder is
marked with 3 initials in the front where the makers name would appear.
It looks to be S P G. It is straight,
and the cutter is nice. The handle looks very early and this one may date
from very close to the 18th century. Also note the nicely done hardwood
strike button on the front. All in all a nice example of a style of plane
that is becoming increasingly more difficult to find.
