Antique & Vintage Sewing Accessories
Antique Scissors and Ladies Knives

Most of the sewing related antiques you will find on this and our other Sewing Accessories pages originated from Pennsylvania, Ohio and Michigan, and were part two large and diverse antique sewing collections we are handling on consignment.  This is the first time most of these pieces have been out on the market in many years.

Ladies
Antique Silver Folding Pocket KnivesLadies Antique Silver Folding Pocket Knives  The smallest one is marked "Germany" with a crown logo as well as "Sterling 825 Fine".  It has two small blades.

The one on the left is also marked Germany and sterling, and has a maker name but the blades are a bit corroded and it is hard to read.  One of the "blades" is actually a nail file.

The largest one is gorgeous, with lovely engraving on the blade, and the back side is monogrammed "Emma".  It could be sterling or plate---I could not find a mark.

Ivory
Handled Antique Folding ScissorsIvory Handled Antique Folding Scissors  These antique scissors have folding ivory handles so they can easily be tucked away into a pocket or purse.  They are marked "Patent", and the beveled edge of the blades are actually files so they double in purpose.  Be sure to look at all the pictures to see them folded up.

Vintage Stork Scissors5 Pairs of Vintage "Stork" Scissors  These stork shaped scissors are each a little different.  It was a popular design that worked well for needlework tasks.  The two brass plated ones on the left are marked "Italy".  The little one must have been for a charm bracelet or necklace, and it is actually operable.  The fourth one is unmarked but appears to have good age to it and is in original nickel plate finish.  The last one is marked "Berkshire Cutlery Works Germany", which would make it pre-date WWII, and looks to have originally been brass plated as well though much of the finish has worn off.

Unusual Ladies Scissors KitUnusual "Take Down" Ladies' Scissor Kit  The case appears to be Bakelite or a similar material, and has applied decoration.  The tiny pair of scissors that fits inside has a tiny threaded shaft that screws into the threaded hole in the case, making for a handle.  Very nice and very unusual!

Antique Scissors4 Unusual Pairs of Antique Scissors  These four pairs of scissors will make a great start or added addition to an antique scissor or sewing tool collection.  The large pair on the left is patented and I imagine the patent applies to the screw mechanism that allows them to be taken apart and also lets you adjust the tension between the cutting blades.  It's a great idea as I have had a lot of scissors that could have used this feature---and have you ever tried sharpening a pair when they are together?  But we don't have to worry about that anymore---nowadays we just throw them out and buy a new pair.  The ornate brass pair has a decorative sheathe to cover the blades.  The next pair are a fairly simple pair of buttonhole cutting scissors.  The last pair are delicate tiny steel scissors.

Antique ScissorsEarly Hallmarked Scissors in Silver Sheath and Set of Gold Handled Scissors  The pair of scissors in the middle is marked "J. Rogers & Son" and they are hallmarked.  I could not find a mark on the sheath---it looks to be sterling, but no promises on that.

The two gold handled ones are marked "Schnefel Bros. Germany" and are hallmarked.  They are also marked "14K".  They have a wonderful Art Nouveau logo inscribed on them and are likely for a ladies dresser set.
