Stewart 4 Volt Electric MotorStewart Brass Frame Toy Electric Motor I have had dozens of small battery powered electric motors over the years but never this one before.  Note the tag, it is 4 volts, and runs at 3,000 RPM.  Must have been for an electric boat by this famous maker of electric and gas or steam engines for boats and launches.  ????  It turns over nicely, but I did not test it.  Cute.

Antique Electric Sewing Machine Motor w/ RheostatAntique Electric Sewing Machine Motor w/ Rheostat This set-up reminds me of the situation I am in where I am being sent a black box  to make it possible to receive TV signals after they change them to all digital.

Electricity had come to America, but what was the housewife to do with her trusty hand crank or treadle sewing machine.  Upgrade of course.

These motors were offered to the consumer who had treadle or hand crank sewing machines and had invested a lot of money in them and would not buy one of the new fangled electrics, but wanted to keep up with the new technology and neighbors who did.  I had one of these once that was patented in the 1880's and bolted to the machine instead of the wheel and crank, this version is more universal and has a pulley that would run against the wheel to get things going.  From the looks of it and the condition the wife decided to stick with hand or foot power, or hubby got her one of those real electrics the next year. Overall it is in great condition, and I suspect the wife just continued to treadle away and this sat in the closet for 75 years. Oh, Final thought. The converter box for my TV did not work.

Weeden Electric MotorToy Electric Motor These came in different sizes.  The base seems to be marked 110Volts, but i am not sure if that is correct.  Unlike the other motors these used electro magnetic field to operate.  It looks similar to a Weeden design, but there is no makers info to be found.

Antique Edison Electric Motor"Edison" Electric Motor I have been told these were offered at one of the large Expositions or Centennials back near the turn of the century.  It is a rare little motor, and this is only the second i have had or seen.   It is in nice condition and will clean to be fine.  It is just dirty from sitting on a garage shelf for 100+ years.    I might even do it.

Cast Iron Lattice Frame Toy MotorSmall Cast Iron Lattice Frame Toy Motor I have had dozens of small battery powered electric motors over the years but never this one with the cast lattice ends before.  The end caps on both sides are a nice lattice like cast iron.  I had to replace one bolt that was missing.  It turns over nicely, but I did not test it.  Cute.

Ajax Electric MotorAjax Electric Motor This is an interesting and nice condition example of a small battery powered electric motor.  This type of motor was sold out of the back of magazines and were used as toys and demonstrators for kids from that era to play with and be inspired by.  This marked example is in nice condition noting one brush is missing.

Franklin Electric Sewing Machine MotorFranklin Electric Sewing Machine Motor This tiny electric motor was pulled off of a Sears Franklin Sewing Machine.  Probably from the 20's - 30's or so.  I will now probably get 5 emails asking what the Franklin Sewing machine they have is worth. The answer is about what I am trying to sell the motor for   Cute.

Electric Quack MachineElectric Quack Machine I suppose it was reasonable to think electric shocks had a therapeutic effect way back when.  There were certainly a lot of them in use and patented to cure the ills of the world.  The tingling sensation would certainly convince the patient that something was going on.  Chiropractors are still pushing the idea so there might be something to it, or not.  The probes and paddles are stored in the lid.  The battery or other magical stuff was in the base.
