 Antique Cameras & Photography

Gundlach Corona 8x10 Portrait Camera  This a nice looking fully functional 8 x 10 large format portrait camera by Gundlach, a well know and respected maker in the upstate NY Rochester Buffalo area of Fairport NY.  This company originally made lenses and optics but introduced a line of cameras after buying the Manhattan Camera Co around the turn of the century and continued selling a line of  cameras into the 30's.

This camera comes with 2 different lenses, one of which is a small 8 x 10 wide angle marked Busch on the cap, and Sterling on the lens.  The larger lens is a Turner Reich.  It seems to be operable.    There are 3 different back board included that will change it to a 5 x 7 or a 4 x 5 as well as the 8 x 10.  There are also 5 film holders.  The lenses and the back glass plates look to be in fine condition.  There are no tears in or damage I can see to the bellows.  The knobs and adjustments all turn and operate as they should.  The shutter button works.

Nikon S2 Rangefinder Camera  The Nikon S2 was first introduced in 1955 and was a great improvement over their earlier 35MM model cameras with many new features which led it to become an all time favorite with users.  The serial number on this one is 6150492 which I believe would date it from 1956.  The S2 Rangefinder was discontinued and a new model introduced just a couple of years later.  They were such a popular camera that approx 60,000 were made.  I saw auction results for the all black model of one of these and it went for close to 30K.   Some of the new features introduced in this S2 model were.

That information about the S2 and a wealth of additional information on this popular camera is available at the Nikon site. Beyond a general overview covering all the important new features they have links to several reviews by different sources that contain a lot of good info as well.  There are also links to the user guide, and the original instruction manual.     Here is the link to that site

This camera is in very nice overall condition and shows little signs of use.  All functions operate smoothly and properly.  There is one small indent on the front cover that is barely noticeable and it does not affect use. The lens is a Nikkor - S.C 1:1.4 f=5cm and it is clear and bright with no scratches.  The lens cover is present as well.  Also included is the original marked brown leather case that is in very nice condition.  In addition it has 3 small containers on the case straps.  One contains a fitted Leica light meter, and another with a 3.5 Nikon viewing lens. The last one is empty.
