bump staplerNOS Handheld Bump Paper Fastener or Stapleless Stapler w/ Box  The hand held version of the Bump Paper Fastener is one of the harder versions to find, and doubly so in this new-old-stock-in-the-box condition.  These interesting little devices which date from the 1920's, although generally not considered very rare, are a wonder to watch perform their task of fastening sheets of paper together by cutting, folding, and tucking a small piece of the stock, and then tying it all together with just a squeeze.  All without any outside or foreign objects, just a simple squeeze.  It is a wonder that the typical stapler was so popular and that these disappeared from the market, but then they would not have been able to continue to sell you staples at an incredible mark-up, the type of logic that drives our economy.  These devices came in several other versions including a couple of different desk sizes that I am aware of.  This one is in NOS condition, excellent and works like a charm.

Ideal staplerIdeal Paper Fastener  This is one I have never had before.  I believe it is English, and made in Japan.  It has what appear to be English Patent numbers.  The cosmetic condition is super, but the actual operation is a bit spotty compared to the American made counterparts listed elsewhere.  It may be just missing a spring as it has to be manually pulled back up or perhaps a lube.  The actual cutting and folding seems to work, but hangs up when pulling it back up.  I am not going to play with it.  This one is for looking at,  if you want to use one regularly get one of the NOS Bumps or Clipless Paper Fastener models.

Patented Novelty StaplerNovelty Paper Fastener Stapler  This is one of the first American Patented Staplers.  It is described and pictured on a couple of informational sites on the internet.  It also doubles as a paper clip.   The base is oftentimes offered as a rein holder when found without the plunger.  This one is complete, and unmarked.  On some the plunger is marked off in increments. You would load one staple at a time, and then if I understand it, you would have to fold over the legs yourself.  Thankfully stapler development did not stop here.

Clipless Paper Fastner"Clipless" Paper Fastener Stapler  The idea here was to cut / fold / tuck, all in one push of the plunger.  They work so well, the question is why did wire staplers put this idea to pasture?
