Antique Pitters / Graters & Seeders
The
"Star" Patented Raisin Seeder Before the time of the Thompson Seedless grape there were these
devices. Raisin seeders come in a nearly endless array of designs and levels
of complexity. We use to collect them, and some are decidedly harder to
find than others. Although this is not a rare form, it is a hard to find
name, and with the star design cast into the side it has great visual appeal.
It's also marked "Pat Apl For" Interesting!

Cherry
Pitter Here is a neat Mt. Joy Pitter made to accomplish a task that few
have to perform today. I am surprised that they have not come out with
seedless cherries yet, but this will do the trick if you want to make your own
pie. These pitters came in a myriad of designs and by many makers.
It has a neat action. Click

The
"Edgar" Patented Nutmeg Grater The patent info is stamped into the barrel near the top.
Nutmeg graters were a common thing back in the late 19th century. There
was a lot of food whose smells and tastes needed to be masked with something to
be edible and nutmeg was the flavor of choice back then. Today it is used a lot
less to simply enhance the smell or flavor, but back when, folks were carrying
around versions to make the days offerings more palatable. For
those who care, the Edgar came in at least three variations. The earliest
had a cast iron bar across the top instead of the wire on this one, and there
were also long and short bar models offered. In addition to the
Edgar, there are about 100 other patented nutmegs out in the world that one can
take up the quest to try and collect them all.
Oh, This one is complete and pretty nice. I see them offered all the time half missing, or with the wooden handle missing all the time at much more money. Here you get what you pay for.
