Peelers / Parers / Sectioners / Corers
Apple Parer / Corer / Sectioner The Coy is a very early and primitive looking apple parer / sectioner / corer that at first glance looks to be homemade, but is actually a well known patented apple parer dating from the mid 19th century. This was a time when apples were a very important part of American culture and diet. Storing and preserving apples for use throughout the winter was a very important part of early America, and the development and inventions surrounding this endeavor make for an interesting story.
This one seems operational, is complete, and in nice condition but I did not give it a test drive and it may need adjustment to make it work like it should. A neat piece!

Rival #2 Apple Parer / Corer / Sectioner The Rival is a well known and great looking commercial parer. Quick, fast and no fuss, with just a little muss. This one seems operational, but I did not give it a test drive and it may need adjustment to make it work like it should. A neat piece!

Very Good........$350.00
2 Sinclair Scott Apple / Peach Parer The Sinclair Scott may not be the rarest parer to be found, but it is certainly one of the prettiest, with great looking hearts cast into the wheel. The design of the fork and the blades were made to work for peaches, which must have been a pretty messy job. Buy it to use if you want to make the pie-making chore easier on yourself and don't want one of those new overpriced ones you see advertised for sale in the fancy-dancy kitchenware catalogs. Good........$40.00 / ea. 1 SOLD!
2 Reading 78 Apple Parer Common but durable, the Reading 78 is the old standby for paring apples. One would wonder why the ever had to make another one after this one came out it was such a good design. In fact, they are still making them today. But these are vintage.
Note: The parer on the right is SOLD. The one on the left is available---the casting on the top is cracked. ML-AP-6
Fair........$25.00
2 Lathe Type Apple Parers Apple parers came in all different designs and sizes. These are referred to as lathe types. They are Baystates by Goodell. ML-AP-8-9
Good........$30.00 / ea.
Lathe Type Apple Parers This one is a larger version of the regular Baystate and is known as one of the best and most reliable users. ML-AP-4
Good........$45.00
Lathe Type Apple Parer This one is known as the little giant. It has features and performs tasks much larger ones claim, and hence the name "Little Giant" ML-AP-5
Good........$30.00
Lathe Type Potato Slicer / Chip Maker These are usually associated with potatoes but I imagine could be used to thin slice other vegies as well. Take a look at the other pics to see the job it can do. There is maker info in the casting, and it says the patent for this neat idea was pending to warn off the competition. That is interesting, as it is not one pictured in Thornton's book on peelers and yet there are others. I guess it did not scare them off. A neat Piece! Click for pic Click for pic Click for pic
