 Unusual Country Style Butter Churns

borden1.jpg (13953 bytes)White and Blue Enamelware Borden's Buttermilk "Churn"  This is a great display piece for the churn collector, the Borden's collector, or anyone who likes great antique advertising and Country Store items!  My understanding is that this was a dispenser that sat on the countertop.  It originally had a spigot and would have been filled with ice to cool the interchangeable jug of buttermilk that would have sat on top, much like the way a water cooler works today.  It stands about 24" tall with a diameter at the top of just over 12".  It is thick white enamelware over metal, and fashioned to resemble a 16-sided wooden stave churn.  It is marked in rich cobalt blue lettering front and back.  There are a few dings in the enamelware but overall is in real nice condition.  Imagine how great it could look with a piece of glass on top displaying your favorite churn, or coffee grinder, or whatever you want to show off!          Click for pic

paint_churn1.jpg (20291 bytes)Rare Painted Wooden Churn Manufactured by DeWolf & Co. Portland, Maine   A great piece of Country Americana in fine condition, this wooden tabletop churn is in its original blue-green paint and is marked "DeWolf & Co. Manufacturers Portland, ME".  DeWolf is an old New England family name, which is where this piece was purchased.  It stands about 24" high and the lid, which has a hinged inspection "door", lifts off to reveal a uniquely designed gear-driven dasher mechanism.  This example looks like it was used little if at all.     Click for Pic      Click for Pic     Click for Pic
