Cast
Iron 8 Qt Stove Kettle
I believe this dates from the mid 1800's.
Note how the base is formed to sit directly into the hole on the top of the
stove to get it right up close to the heat. A little clean
and stove black and this will look great. We use a similar one to generate
humidity on the top of the stove.ML-ci-3

Piqua Ware #9 Cast Iron Pan Lid
This is a design to make the juices drip back into the pan before reaching
the side. Loks like a good plan.

Patent Sad Iron Heater What a great idea!
When not being used to heat the irons on top of the woodstove on Tuesday morning,
the owner could simply flip this one over and use it to prepare the next meal
in.

Circular
Sad Iron Heating Plates
On the left is an unusual sad iron
heater marked "Garland Sad-Iron Heater". It was probably sold or given
away with a purchase of a stove. The smaller one on the right is marked
with a patent date. The idea here was to keep your clean iron off the
dirty sooty stove. That was the sales pitch. On the other side,
the logic was offer something / anything and hope it sells to pay the overhead.
Some things never change!

Round
Covered Sad Iron Heater
This one is unmarked as far as I
can see. Three Mrs. Potts-style irons fit perfectly on the plate under
the handled lid. Seems like a good idea that would work much better than
just having the irons out in the air---kind of like putting them in a little
oven. The plate that they site on is cast iron. I am not sure what
the top portion is made of as it looks like it is nickel plated, but I do not
think it is.
