European Removable Handle Primitive Tailors Irons
I suppose
the idea was to be able to move to the next body with your handle after the first
cooled off. That makes sense, except you hardly ever see these without their
handle, unlike all the typical smaller sad irons with no handles that are floating
around. These are European, and if you stop and think about it, there are
very few American tailors irons with removable handles. Just off hand only
the Sensible comes to mind. Very nice!!

The one on the left looks to be
a unique "cold handle" idea I have never seen before on a tailors iron. Different!On the right is a European goose neck handle.

Spade Shape Primitive Tailors Irons
These are both about
12-15 lbs. Most tailor irons are not spade shaped although all the major makers
did make them, they are just much harder to find. One is marked with a large A the
other is just heavy. Very graphic!!

Here is another European
goose neck handle iron that has a "PW" logo on the top. It just needs a light
clean.

Primitive Tailors Seam Irons
These are both more elongated
and narrow than typical. The one on the left was forge welded as if from one
piece. Both are unmarked and probably blacksmith made. Very nice!!

3 Tailors Irons
These are 3 smaller tailors irons all weighing approx
12 lbs each. The one on the left has an casting depicting what looks to be
an eagle on an arrow. The middle one says Mobbs & Lewis Ltd. and although
dirty is pretty unusual. The one on the right has a simple wide flat strap
handle.

clearly stamped 20. A long time ago someone drew a stylized face on the nose
of this one. Perhaps while it was still in service. It has a neat look.

This is the nicest of several of these same form and
size tailors irons we have. It is marked "Hotpoint / Edison Electric".
I have seen them also marked "Hotpoint / General Electric", and I do not doubt you

The condition of this one is second to none. The
name stamp on the cross bar is weak, but I have others that are the same design
with easier to read stamps, and that is what this is.

DC and by a firm named Behrstock out of Chicago that I have never heard of before.

This a nice looking tailors iron that
is unmarked as to maker or origin as far as I can tell. There is a single hole in
the tail that I assume a valve or stem of some sort was attached to. The top
would lift off with the removal of a set screw in the rear.
