Stove
Pipe Warming Trivet / Mitten Warmer
This is one of many
designs of these "stove pipe" trivets are were produced. They were multi-function
tools---you could use them to dry out wet mittens or stockings, let your bread
dough rise, etc.
This woven wireware example is a manufactured and patented piece,
and I have seen the patent model for it. Others were made of cast iron
and some have names cast into them like "Woman's Friend", "Adams" or others.
There was also a version with 5 or so round trivets that fold up and down, and
one that had square or rectangular plates that swing in or out. Those
are cast models, but this is the only wireware one I am aware of. It is
very simple, and yet very beautifully made. Special!!!
Patented
Cast Iron Stove Trivet / Mitten Warmer
This
is a neat piece. It has 4 cast iron plates that can swing in and out as
they are attached to the stove pipe above your wood burning stove. As
shown, the top plates would be hugging the pipe, while the bottom set are swung
out to give a different effect. There is a small bracket at the bottom
and there are two stops to keep the shelves at any desired height on the steel
rod. There is no bracket or attachment at the top and one will be needed
if this is to be used. In the past this is the way I have seen all of
these, and I suppose you have to come up with an idea to wire or hold the top
in place if you want to set it up and use it as intended.
Trouser
Press
For the iron and pressing collection that has just
about everything. Here is a 100 lb. trouser press. The base is cast
iron and the top looks like Mahogany to me. I have never seen it before.
Have you? I wonder if you were supposed to put your pants in every night
or???
Electric
Sad Iron Cords
You need them, we got 'em.
These will work with many toasters and other appliances from that era.
NOS and nice.
Enameled
Gas Jet Sad Iron Heater
This style is usually associated with European
gas jet irons, and I have had a number of them over the years, but never an
enameled one like this.
French
Double Hole Sad Iron Heater
This style sad iron heater fits into
the hole in the top of the wood stove. There are many different versions,
but this one from France is a bit unusual. And good looking!
Eagle
#2 Double Sad Iron Heater
This is a typical design for a large
and heavy 2-hole sad iron heater, but what is a bit unusual is that it is marked
"Eagle #2
Goose
Neck Sad Iron Heater
This style sad iron heater heated goose-neck
handle style irons like you typically see from Europe. It has a hood over
top to keep the heat in. It's a bit dirty but will clean to look nice.
Double
Stove Top Iron Heater
Note that is is not the typical Monitor sad iron heater, where the irons both
go in from the same side. This design looks like a great idea, and different
from the norm in that the irons would be inserted from each side. It is
a rare variation and no wonder if you think about it on top of the large 6 burner
stove in the kitchen or laundry room. Was the user really supposed to
walk around to the other side to get the other iron? Was that even possible?
I suppose it worked for some situations. Limited applications meant limited
appeal, makes for a pretty rare piece for today's collectors.
