Machine Fluters /Fluting Irons
Page 1

Eureka 1871 Patent Fluting Iron   This is a pretty rare and unusual machine fluter that does not turn up very often.  Note the intricate and complex spring and roller adjustment at the top.  It is a unique design amongst machine fluters. The octagon 8-sided cast iron base is an unusual design as well.  Overall the fluter is in very nice condition, with lots of original black japanning finish still remaining.  There is also a painted decoration in the middle of the base as can be seen.

The Dudley Fluter    This is a great looking machine fluting iron referred to as "The Dudley".  It was patented Nov. 14, 1876, and that date is case into the arm.  There are actually two variations of this fluter, this one being the harder-to-find version that included an extra support for the gracefully curved arm.  This example is in really fine condition and still retains red pinstriping around the black painted base.  It is very graphic with the great form of the double looped, of figure 8, shaped wingnut topped by an acorn finial.

Champion Fluting Machine    This fluting iron is one that is not found very often.  Take a look at the picture of the underside to see this fellow's patented idea and how different it is from the norm.  It is similar to a machine fluter known as the "Champion" but the contoured edge base is distinctively different.  It has some paint loss, but would greatly improve with a little bit of a cleaning.

Companion Clamp-0n Fluter    This is a crank style fluter with an integral clamp, one of only a handful of this style ever manufactured.  It is in really nice condition, still retaining most of its original black paint and gold decoration, including the name "Companion" in decorative script.  A great piece, and really hard to find!

Greenwood "Cherub" Machine Fluter   This patented Greenwood machine fluter has the manufacturer's location of Cincinnati and a lot of other information cast into the bottom.  But the really neat thing about it is the great Cherub decal / painting on the base.  It is in super condition!  Decorated fluters like this one are tough to find.

3 Different Miniature Eagle Machine Fluters

This is the smallest size machine fluter typically found or produced.  There are smaller salesman samples known, but this size was offered as a regular stock item in catalogs.  The bases measure approx 4" x 6" and the rollers are 3" long.  Each of these is slightly different from the next.  The differences include different embossed writing or info, and different casting shapes in the feet and bases.  Two have Eagle embossed / cast into the top, and of those one is marked American Machine, and the other North Brothers.  The other two have no ID or patent info on them.  One is in such nice condition it is hard to imagine that anything like a stencil has worn off.  One has seen use and wear as there is remnants of a paper label on the bottom.  Anyway here they are------
