Charcoal Irons

Charcoal Heated Iron with Unusual Latch    There are no markings to indicate the origins of this iron but it has an interesting design to the front latch.  It is also a bit smaller in size from most of this style.  The red paint on the wooden handle grip and the gold paint on the handle support and latch give every indication of being original.  It would benefit greatly from a good cleaning.            BCM-73

Gemo Danish Charcoal Heated Iron    The name of this antique iron sounded English to me, and the handle is in the style used by early German iron manufacturers, but I've read that this was a Danish company, so I don't really know.  In any case this iron is curious because on the one hand it looks very "20th Century Modern" in shape.  On the other hand, who in modern times would still be using a charcoal iron?  Obviously an iron that was leading the transition into the new era.  The triangular chimney is so stylish!            BCM-86

Good ..... $55.00

Dalli German Charcoal Iron complete with Accessory Tray    The Glissman book indicates that this iron was manufactured by the Grossag Co. on a special order for another German company just from 1928-30.  In and of itself the iron isn't exceptionally rare, but it is seldom found with its auxiliary accessory tray, that allowed you to convert the heat source from charcoal to alcohol.  This example is in excellent condition and complete with the tray, also in very nice condition.  A nice find!       Click for Pic      BCM-87

English Lyng Charcoal Iron    Although this is more in the style of American charcoal irons it was manufactured by an English foundry by the name of Cross, who trademarked the iron "Lyng".  The casting is of a really nice quality.  The brass heat shield is impressed with the manufacturer's info and the visual form of the chimney and the damper door are second-to-none.  Clean it up and show it off!       Click for Pic     Click for Pic        BCM-311

Charcoal Iron    I'm not sure where this iron originates from.  It has a nice heat shield, and there is a large #3 cast into the top.  The draft on the tail end is different This iron just needs a cleaning or coat of gloss to make it look great.      Click for Pic             LCM-CC

Large Charcoal Iron with Figural Dolphin Handled Posts    This iron has a great form with dolphin heads and bodies that look like mythical critters holding up the half-round handle grip.  The iron would benefit from a cleaning to really bring it to full display potential.        Click for Pic

European Charcoal Iron with Griffin Latch    The latch design on this European charcoal heated iron is great.  The handle support is cast in a very decorative shape, and by means of a hinge or pivot point a figural griffin-like creature comes out of the front of the handle support and grasps the latch on the base.  On the inside of the lid there is a five-pointed star with a 6 in the center and the word "Gyertyauliget" or something similar.  The iron appears to have a coat of newer black paint on it.            Click for Pic          ML-CI-I-6

European Charcoal Heated Tailor-size Iron    This charcoal iron is an over-engineered marvel and really beefy!  Look at the work that went into making that 3-layered contoured heat shield.  And since nobody likes to get smoke in their face when ironing, the chimney was made to swivel a full 180 degrees to accommodate either left-brained or right-brained tailors.               Click for Pic      Click for Pic              ML-CI-I-8

English "Imperial" Charcoal Iron    This is the first of these i have seen.  That is one of the beauties of collecting irons.  The supply of different irons is seemingly endless.  Even after 10-20 years of looking at collections, attending meetings or auctions, and searching the countryside new and different ones pop up.          Click for Pic
