Brass with Nickel Plated Bottom German Slug Iron w/ Removable Handle
This is nice looking slug iron. The gate is marked #7. It has a
German-style hand saw type handle that is in very nice condition. This iron's
handle was made to be easily removable by turning out the acorn final nuts you
see. The other unusual feature is that the body is cast brass, then the
bottom was nickel plated over the brass. Different!

Ox Tongue German Slug Iron w/ Turned Handle & Lift Gate
This is good looking "petite" brass slug iron with a nice early look to it.
It has a nicely contoured body shape and with the oversize handle it looks like
this one was really meant to do some work in those small tight areas.

Plated Swing Gate Ox Tongue Iron
When things like irons were offered in nickel plated finish they were offered
at a premium. Typically the iron would be offered in natural brass, natural
iron, or nickel plate, with price differences of something like a 25 cents for
each change. Far fewer irons are found with this finish than either iron
or brass. The plating is very nice as are the handle and the swing gate.
The slug looks to be original as well. A nice iron!!!

Brass Ox-Tongue Box Iron
It’s interesting the way so many of the 19th Century European
irons were so decorative and so pretty compared to the more utilitarian look
of American irons of the day. This is an ox tongue shaped iron, and I
have to admit, these open-ended handles always throw me. I always feel
like I’m going to grab them the wrong way and iron backwards with them, with
the toe to the rear and the heal to the front. Guess it’s a good think
I never had to use one. This example is complete with its heating slug.
Really beautiful and ready to display!

This unusual box / slug iron is probably German.
It is a better made and more complex model than typically seen. Note the
cast iron heat shield surrounding the handle. It is feature rarely
seen on such a style iron.
