Antique Advertising Clocks

Purex Laundry Detergent Advertising Clock   This Purex advertising clock runs. I am not sure if it keeps time.   It is in excellent condition.  There is some minor overspray spots from a long ago paint job.  It measures approx 20" across and approx 6" deep.   I assume this clock came out of a Laundromat or Dry Cleaner business.  It is much more substantial and impressive than most of the new repro "antique" advertising wall clocks you see today.  It is very graphic and will make quite a statement hanging in the display room.      Click for Pic    Click for Pic     Click for Pic

Hammond Postal Telegraph Clock   This clock is in all original good condition.  The case is dent-free and the black paint is original.  The glass over the face is original. The face is original.  The hands are original, including the red second hand with the crescent on the back end.  The motor is original and works smoothly. The clock keeps time.  The black fiberboard dust cover on the back of the clock is original and in very good condition.  The label is original and in very good condition.  The diameter of the clock case is approximately 21 inches. The diameter of the bezel is approximately 16 inches. The diameter of the clock face is approximately 15 inches. The depth of the clock is approximately 4 inches.  This clock has two thumb wheels on the back. One sets the time and the other must be spun to make the clock start running. (Every time the clock is restarted, this thumb wheel must be spun.)

Producing clocks for Postal Telegraph (the main competitor of Western Union) actually saved the Hammond Company from bankruptcy in the early years of the depression. The synchronous motor invented by Laurens Hammond allowed his clocks to keep perfect time by operating in phase with alternating current. This is the same Hammond Company that makes organs.

Glow - Dial Clock   This Belfast Sparkling Water advertising clock runs. I am not sure if it keeps time.   It is in excellent condition.  It measures approx 14" across and approx 6" deep.   I assume this clock originally came out of a store or pharmacy and has been hanging in a local hardware store for the last 20 or so years.    It is much more substantial and impressive than most of the new repro "antique" advertising wall clocks you see today.  It is very graphic and will make quite a statement hanging in the display room.      Click for Pic
