The Wonder Tin Syllabub Churn  This is a neat little antique tin mixer that was specially designed to make syllabub, a holiday dessert that was popular in the Southern United States in the last century and was made from a mixture of whole milk or cream, eggs, wine or cider, sugar or sweetener, and spiced with nutmeg and cinnamon.  The design of this churn consists of an open ended cylinder, perforated around the bottom, and a plunger having a perforated double disk arrangement.  The cylinder is stamped "The Wonder Cream Whip & Egg Beater Absolutely Unequaled".  Nowadays these churns are found less and less frequently.           Excellent.........$75.00      SOLD

Monroe Patented 1859 / 1860  Eggbeater    This is a very hard to find, and relatively early patented beater as the patents for it were first pulled in the mid 1800's. Several different versions were produced over the years, with most of them having a provision for table mounting like this one does.  (note shown in pic)   Overall it is in excellent condition with just a light coating of rust that will clean or look great once some attention and oil or wax are applied.  Rare, early and desirable.  Highly recommended!!

Excellent ..... SOLD!

The Standard Wire Handle Beater 12 1/2"   This 12 1/2" tall beater features the  now-famous "incurvation" design of dashers as described by Thomas Brown, the beater's 19th century inventor, as well as the rare feature of the twisted wire handle.  This beater has 2 patent dates March 8th 81, and July 14th 1885 cast into the wheel.   Don Thornton devotes an entire chapter of The Eggbeater Chronicles to this Boston manufacturer's extensive line of cast iron beaters, sorting out the array of Standard dates, markings and dashers through his meticulous patent research, and although similar examples with wire handles are known, this particular variation is not pictured, and is taller than those known or shown.  This example is a beauty with no rust or pitting, and exhibits just a nice rich patina. It is nicely marked Dover Pat in addition to the above dates.  Rare and desirable is the proper description for this one.            Excellent........$195.00       SOLD

rightang1.jpg (24963 bytes)The Holt Right Angle Egg Beater / Cream Whip  This beater is in very nice condition.  As with most of them, the wheel skips a bit in operation, but that was a design flaw and not a condition the has resulted from beating up a million or so eggs.  Every example of this beater I have ever had has had this condition, and that along with the coming of electricity probably explains the relative rarity of these pieces.  There are two patent dates in the wheel from 1899 and 1900, one of them no doubt for the unusual right angle design, and the other most likely for the flared design dashers that this company was so well known for.  These beaters were produced in this, the 8.5" size, and in much fewer numbers in the next size up which is 11 or so inches tall.  If you ever see one of those, grab it as you may never have the opportunity again.

Good+..... $250.00    SOLD!

Unique M.H. Roberts Patent Archimedes Egg Beater   Maurice H. Roberts, the Boston inventor who designed this ingenious and appealing Archimedes beater, is not to be confused with Harry P. Roberts, another Boston inventor who likewise patented an Archimedes beater.  This unique beater, patented April 25, 1922, has a turned up 4-pronged dasher affair as well as a perforated circular disk, both of which aid in the mixing and beating and, in the process it would seem, do their share of splashing and splattering as well!  This example is the first we have ever had of this beater design, and it is in very nice overall condition.         Very Good..... $225.00   SOLD

Landers Frary & Clark Universal #15 Glass Churn / Whipper   Examples of this small #15 size glass churn in the Landers, Frary and Clark line are few and far between.  It is far less frequently found than their well-known clamp-on mayonnaise mixer, and it is much rarer than their hard-to-find #25 and #35 mid-size glass churns.  And it is certainly much rarer than the popular Dazey 1 Qt. churn, or even Dazey's assorted size churns with their early horseshoe logo.  If you are looking for a churn that truly is rare, the Universal #15 is the one.  This example is the only one we have ever owned in this size.  It has been in our own collection for a number of years, and we know of only one other.  And it is in super condition, looking like it has seen very little use.  The jar is excellent with no cracks or chips.  The metal parts are free of corrosion and very clean.  The embossed lettering on the jar and the cast lettering on the lid are bold and clear.  It is marked "Pat. Applied For" as well as with the patent date of Oct. 1, 1915.  You'll be proud to display this top-of-the-line churn!            Excellent........$995.00        SOLD

s-churn1.jpg (23618 bytes)Cornish, Curtis & Greene Butter Churn  At first this antique churn's design looks like a crazy idea, but as soon as you start to spin it, you instantly realize that this fellow had come up with a winner. Because he hooked up his supports at opposing diagonal corners, this puppy revolves almost effortlessly because it is so out of balance.  I have had square churns that were just mounted on opposing parallel sides, and they were slow, off balance, and not at all interesting to see in operation.  This one on the other hand is super both in looks and action, and will be a highlight of the churn collection.  The stencil and writing that remain attest to this fact, and it has info on several of the side panels about all the awards it won at the state fairs and such.  I imagine that it won even more than these.  I had a catalogue from this company last year, and it was really neat as this company made a full line of dairy and butter products, first for the farmers in Minnesota and later as they became famous for their superior products, for the dairy folks all over the country.  This is the smallest #1 size, and I would estimate it at about 5 or 6 gallons.  It is in overall good condition with the paint and stencil being very fragile and in need of a stabilizing treatment, but I am going to leave that to the next owner's taste.  It is a winner, both in design and looks, and will become a great display piece in your collection!

Excellent.......SOLD!

Ram Double Propeller Eggbeater    A fellow by the name of Robert Moore from New York City patented this line of beaters during the 20's.  He made 3 or 4 different versions during their short production period, and this example is one of the most difficult to find.  It is in super condition and still sports most of the original finish on the handle and knob.  It is marked on the main wheel "RAM BEATER /  PAT", and then a picture of a Ram with "Trade Mark" written underneath it.  The operation is smooth as silk, and this will make a great addition to the growing collection.          Excellent........$125.00  SOLD

The Margine Mixer   This is a super unusual piece that I have never seen in any other collection.   I suspect that it was not simply meant to be a general purpose mixer / churn, but that it was marketed as one of those specialty butter extenders / mergers like the Mak-Mor Churn pictured in Don Thornton's Eggbeater Chronicles.  In any case, patent research would have to be conducted based solely on the  "Pat. Apr. 1919" date that is embossed on the bottom of the jar, along with the manufacturer's info of "The Margine Mixer Co. Cincinnati".  If you look at the second photo you will see that the design of this mixer is completely unique, with a flat metal disk that fits into the bottom of the jar.  There is actually an approx. 3/4" diameter hole in center of the jar bottom that accepts a flange in the disk, allowing the disk to be pushed up from underneath, perhaps to permit the liquid created during the churning process to be drained (like the screen in a Dazey churn).  Turning the crank that comes out the lid causes a little geared affair on the bottom end to revolve as it rotates around the circumference of the jar.  This lone example is in super condition with no chips, cracks or flaws of any sort, and it will probably be a good long while before another one comes on the market.

Excellent........$95.00  SOLD

The Lower Egg Beater  This is one of the rarest of the rare in the kitchen collectible world.  It looks like it should be from the mid 1800's, but the patent for this odd looking device was pulled in the 1920's which would have put it in direct competition with the Sunbeam Mixmaster.  The race was on!!   Unless you were from way out there, where electricity was still unheard of, which would you have bought home to impress the wife.  Well that part of the story is history now, and Sunbeam is still making a version of their invention, while Mr. Lower probably died a pauper.  RARE!  There are only a handful of these known and it is without a doubt one of the most desirable and sought after of all mixers that are known in the Kitchen collectibles world.   There is a break in the end gear wheel casting that has been repaired, and is barely noticeable unless pointed out.  It matters little to the overall importance of this wonderful piece.  Good+......$1995.00  SOLD

The Lebanon Beater   Patented in 1892, this unusual beater was invented by a man named Seltzer but goes by the name of the locale in Pennsylvania from which he hailed.  Without a doubt it is one of the most unusual designs ever for an eggbeater, so unusual that I doubt it worked very well.    Don Thornton gives a colorful history of the designer and the beater in his Eggbeater Chronicles.   This example is in excellent condition and is marked Patent Pending rather than with a date.  The operation is smooth but in a race I bet I would beat you with a fork, which makes this device all the more collectible and another great example of Yankee ingenuity at its finest!      Excellent.......$575.00     SOLD

Jaquette Bros. #2 Eggbeater  This is one of the stranger designs and most graphic of all the many eggbeaters that was ever invented and produced for the American consumer.  I got my first one many years ago at an Tractor and Engine Show where it was being presented as a paint mixer, and you know what, I didn't know any better either, and just bought it because it was different!  This example is in super condition and has no problems or apologies.  They came in three different sizes, with some variations in the numbering, and some differences in the design of the handles and agitator portion, with this being either round  wire or flat ribbon material.  A good one, and hard to find!!

Excellent........$295.00  SOLD

Unusually Large Tin Syllabub Churn    There are lots of variations of these early tinware mixers, and this is one that is not pictured in The Eggbeater Chronicles.  It is unusually large in diameter, measuring about 4 3/4" across.  The dasher design is an interesting double-decker affair, and the container is flat bottomed.  We could not find a patent date on this piece, but it is undoubtedly  unique in design.  The only apology is that a portion of the lip of the lid has deteriorated, but it is not noticeable when the lid is in place on the container.

Excellent........$125.00  SOLD

# 10 Horseshoe Logo 1 Qt. Butter Churn Top   This churn is an example of Dazey's earliest model, the Horseshoe Logo churn.  They came in at least 4 different configurations, and now with the fake ones floating about I suppose we should say 5.    The top portion is undamaged and in pretty nice condition.  It still retains much of its original silver finish and the previous owner has also applied a light coat of some sort of clear finish to further protect it.  The wooden paddles are very nice.  The rivets in the top and the area around them are very nice indeed, with no looseness or stress cracks.  It looks real good and displays nicely.  The glass jar is very nice with just the normal flakes at the rim from the way they cut it during the manufacture process.    Very Good ..... $1495.00    SOLD

Dazey 1 Qt. #10 Butter Churn      As with all antiques, condition is paramount when determining the value of Dazey churns.  Here is the churn that exemplifies and vividly illustrates that famous saying by E.C. Simmons that long after the price is forgotten, the quality remains.  This rare 1 Qt. Dazey churn with the "horseshoe logo" is the nicest example of the earliest model that I have ever had or seen.  It is in excellent original condition and there is no damage, flaws, rust or corrosion that would dissuade any collector.  Look at all the original silvery finish on the top.  The rivets are good, tight, and with no looseness or stress cracks, and hold the top tight to the bright, shiny lid.  Observe the crisp condition of the interior of the lid in the picture I have provided.  The jar's bottom is boldly marked with the number 10.  The jar itself has no damage, cracks, or chips.  It's rim has the characteristic roughness associated with these early model jars, which results from the way they were cut off from the mold.  The wood paddles are excellent and appear to have never seen cream.   These 1 Qt. Dazey churns are offered up on Internet auctions with regularity, but always in lesser condition, even when they claim them to be nice.  That is not the case with this example, and I guarantee you will not be disappointed in the condition of this super piece!    Excellent........$1295.00  SOLD

The Davis Swing Churn  This unusual antique butter churn was made in Bellows Falls, Vermont, and is straight out of a time period that most of us do not remember, and involves a process that  most folks will soon have little understanding of.  I have heard that butter is soon to be outlawed by the ever vigilant fat police.  All kidding aside,  what was it like to make butter in a contraption like this?  Did the operator get to sit and read while doing it with this nearly effortless swing style churn which was one of the "improved and easy to use models"?  And who got the job of cleaning it later?  I wonder if questions like that were asked of the salesman way back then.  This example is very nice, with lots of wonderful and original yellow paint and stenciling remaining.  The frame and swing portion are all original, and in great condition.  There is some slight fading and paint loss but that is typical and to be expected.  It is probably about 8-10 gallons and is one of the smaller sizes of this make that I have ever seen.  A great antique piece in original paint to decorate with in a family room or country kitchen!     Good++................$595.00     SOLD

funks_churn1.jpg (28448 bytes)Salesman Sample Funk's Folding Dasher Churn    The condition is superb and is as if it was made yesterday it is so nice.  I have never seen anothmvc-003s (2).jpg (76427 bytes)er salesman sample churn, or many other salesman samples that are as nicely or as delicately made as this super piece.  When I was offered this, at first I thought that's nice, thinking it was just another full size churn that was in very nice condition, but then I saw the ruler in the next picture and I got my nose closer to the screen to be sure I was seeing it right.  It only measures about 12" tall by about 5" square.  I am sure the price would have started going up.  The design of the dasher which has the feature of folding open on the down stroke of the finely turned lever / arm, and then folds up on the up stroke to make it easier to lift with less drag.  It hails from Toledo Ohio, but the inventor lived just north of there in Michigan near Sturgis and it had been passed down through the original family of the inventor / manufacturer for the last hundred years or so till now.       SOLD!

blu_gr_c1.jpg (25542 bytes) Patented American Blue Granite Churn  I bought this churn at a tool show in New Hampshire one early morning a number of years ago, demonstrating that things show up in the most unlikely of places.  We have bought things out of category at the most unlikely of places, from gun shows to book shows to even quilt and home improvement shows. This churn is in super condition and still has remains of the paper label identifying it as American.  It also has a patent date in the cast iron portion at the top.  When most people initially see this churn they assume it is foreign, but that is not true.  These granite butter churns were bringing record breaking sums of money for a while a few years back when I bought this, which was after the books on Graniteware had come out a number of years ago.        SOLD!

Jaquette Bros. #2 Beater.  This unusual beater / mixer is known as the #2 size even though it is unmarked and has those nice big 0's in the handles.  In any case these beaters came in 4 different sizes and this is the second smallest at 8 3/4".  They are all hard to find, and this one sports the much rarer and harder-to-find ribbon design dashers as opposed to the more commonly seen round wire versions.  I still remember buying my first one of these some 30 years ago as a paint mixer at a farm & engine show.  I had no idea what it was, but sure liked the mechanism.

Holt Lyon Beater w/ Funnel  This beater is known as the flared dasher design, and has the unusual and hard to find funnel that was sold as an accessory to help when making mayo or when you had to drip oil into the mix at a slow rate.  A hard to find beater complete.

Very Good +....... $245.00     SOLD!

Dover "Stands Alone" Patented Stand-Up Eggbeater  This odd looking Dover eggbeater sports three patent dates from 1873-1879, and its most notable feature is the tin bottom stand that allows it to be left standing upright in the bowl or on the tabletop.  Talk about a beater that displays well!      A rare and hard to find beater.

Very Good +....... $223.00     SOLD!

Minute Maid Eggbeater  This eggbeater is a later design but has a lot of neat design elements going for it.  First there are the heart shaped dashers, next is that fact they run counter to each other inside the main frame to real beat them eggs up.  It has a great action and look.  It is dirty, but will clean.

Very Good +....... $35.00     SOLD!
